In August 2023, two young League City residents completed Eagle Scout projects aimed at conservation and preservation of wildlife in League City. Resident James Howard constructed and installed a Chimney Swift bird tower along the Magnolia Creek Hike and Bike Trail. This bird tower—which resembles a chimney on a home—will provide a habitat for Chimney Swifts, who primarily nest in chimneys. With the decrease of traditional chimneys on homes, these towers are becoming an important way to protect Chimney Swifts. The bird tower will eventually be painted with nature-themed art by a local artist.

Resident Ramon Padilla completed the installation of his Eagle Scout Project along a small section of the 5K Loop Trail at Hometown Heroes Park. Padilla constructed a pollinator garden, which supports plants that supply nectar and pollen to a wide range of pollinators including bees, butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds. Over the years, there have been significant declines in pollinator species. Pollinator gardens are an important step in protecting these insects and animals.

With the completion of these projects, James and Ramon will be able to join the ranks of Eagle Scout. To learn more about these projects, watch the videos below.
