City Earns Bee City Certification

In early August 2023, the City of League City was officially designated as a certified Bee City USA. This designation—given by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation—is given to cities committed to saving important pollinators, like bees. Pollinators are vital to our ecosystem and enable the reproduction of over 85% of all flowering plants and 67% of agricultural crops. League City has prioritized developing and maintaining pollinator-friendly habitats, among other initiatives aimed at safeguarding bees and other pollinators. City-maintained pollinator gardens can be found at the Clear Creek Nature Center, Hometown Heroes Park, and in front of the Helen Hall Library, with plans to create more throughout the city. Other native plant areas, including the Wildflower Project on SH 96, are also important to maintaining a healthy pollinator ecosystem.
